$50.00 breakout needed for XAG/USD to extend recovery from YTD low: Silver Price Forecast

  • A modest gain opens the week for Silver, but bullish conviction remains weak.
  • 23.6% Fibo. must be cleared to strengthen the case for a further recovery.
  • $49.00 needs to give way on a sustained basis before bearish traders might commit to fresh positions.

Silver (XAG/USD) is up 1.70% on the day. Trading around the $50.00 psychological level, the metal has opened the week higher, recouping some of Friday's steep decline below $49.00 to its lowest level since November 2025. However, the modest advance during the Asian session has struggled to gain traction.

Resistance at the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement of $50.22 continues to cap XAG/USD. Trading below the 100-hour Exponential Moving Average (EMA), the pair retains a bearish technical bias. Momentum indicators have nevertheless improved slightly, suggesting bears should exercise caution despite the overhead barriers. Above zero, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line is rising and its histogram is expanding. Meanwhile, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has emerged from oversold territory to reach 43.31. These signals point to an attempted rebound, rather than a confirmed bullish reversal.

A break above the 23.6% Fibo. would therefore face its first resistance in a wider congestion area, bounded by the 38.2% retracement at $51.06 and the 50.0% level at $51.74. Beyond that, a dense supply zone is reinforced by the 100-period EMA at $52.29 and the nearby 61.8% Fibo. at $52.42. Further barriers lie at the 78.6% retracement of $53.39 and the swing high area around $54.62. By contrast, the recent cycle low near $48.86 provides the only significant structural support close by. A break below it would put deeper losses back in play, notwithstanding the improvement in intraday momentum.

Silver: Key Questions

Long used to store value and facilitate exchange, Silver remains an actively traded precious metal among investors. It attracts less interest than Gold, but traders may choose it for portfolio diversification, its intrinsic value or its potential to hedge against high inflation. Exposure can come through physical Silver coins or bars, or through instruments such as Exchange Traded Funds that follow its price in international markets.

Several forces shape Silver prices. Its safe-haven appeal can lift prices during geopolitical turmoil or concerns over a severe recession, though the effect is generally weaker than for Gold. Lower interest rates also tend to support Silver because it pays no yield. The US Dollar (USD) is another key influence: Silver is priced in dollars (XAG/USD), so a stronger Dollar typically restrains prices, while a weaker currency is likely to lift them. Investment demand, mine supply and recycling rates also matter. Silver is far more abundant than Gold.

With electrical conductivity among the highest of any metal, exceeding both Copper and Gold, Silver has extensive industrial applications, notably in electronics and solar energy. Rising demand can lift its price, whereas falling demand tends to depress it. Economic developments in the US, China and India can also generate price fluctuations. Large industrial sectors in the US and especially China consume Silver across a range of processes. In India, consumer demand for Silver jewellery is also an important price driver.

Gold often sets the direction for Silver: gains in Gold typically bring a similar response in Silver, reflecting their shared safe-haven characteristics. Relative valuations can be assessed using the Gold/Silver ratio, which measures how many ounces of Silver equal the value of one ounce of Gold. A high reading may be viewed by some investors as a sign that Silver is undervalued or Gold is overvalued. Conversely, a low reading may indicate that Gold is undervalued compared with Silver.
