Two sessions, a full regional team, and one booth: number 115

The world's largest trading gathering returns to Dubai in an unusual week for markets: the first US rate hike since 2023, oil above $100 a barrel and gold retreating from its peak. In that context, the TMGM team brings two sessions built around what traders actually deal with — how an order fills under pressure, and why commodities do not move as one block.

Why this edition lands at an unusual moment

The expo matters for its scale, but this year the timing matters more. It follows a week that reset market assumptions: the Federal Reserve raised rates on 16 September to a 3.75%–4.00% range, the first hike since July 2023; Brent pushed past $105 as supply routes came under pressure; and gold fell to a six-week low. The questions traders are asking in these conditions are exactly what the two TMGM sessions address.

Two sessions on the questions most traders skip

The first covers the distance between your decision and your fill. The second covers the difference between markets that look alike on a screen and run on entirely different drivers.

“Liquidity Is The Difference Between A Win And A Warning”

Kitty Yu, Sales Director – MENA at TMGM

This panel opens the topic most traders ignore until it costs them: liquidity. The price on the screen is not always the price a trade fills at, and the gap widens exactly when the news flow is heaviest.

Expo week is a live case study. Oil is trading above $100 after supply disruptions, and the Federal Reserve raised rates on 16 September to a 3.75%–4.00% range. In moments like these, spreads widen and slippage risk appears, so liquidity stops being a technical footnote and starts deciding outcomes.

Three things you will take away

  • How market depth shifts before and after economic releases.
  • The difference between the quoted spread and the spread you actually pay.
  • Why a risk plan needs a specific rule for thin-liquidity windows.

“Gold Is Not Silver, and Oil Is Not Gold”

Abhay Kumar, Sales Director – MENA & South Asia at TMGM

Abhay Kumar takes on a recurring mistake: treating every commodity as one interchangeable basket. Each market runs on its own drivers, and ignoring that means misreading risk.

The past week proves the point. Gold slipped toward $4,230 after the Fed decision because it answers to real yields and the dollar, while Brent pushed past $105 on supply disruption and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline. Two assets, one week, opposite directions.

Three things you will take away

  • What actually moves gold: real yields, the dollar and official demand.
  • What moves oil: supply, shipping routes and inventories.
  • How to build a separate read for each commodity instead of one generic view.
