Can I teach myself forex trading?

Yes, you can teach yourself forex trading. Start with a structured curriculum that covers currency pairs, leverage, spreads, and both technical and fundamental analysis, as this foundation gives you the terminology and practical understanding needed to assess any trade setup.

From there, build practical skills in three stages:

  1. Practise reading charts on a charting platform until you can identify trends, ranges, and support and resistance levels without assistance.

  2. Monitor an economic calendar so you can link price movements to events such as interest rate decisions and inflation data.

  3. Open a demo account, which you can do free of charge with any broker, and trade on it exactly as you would on a live account, using the same position sizing, stop-loss rules, and entry criteria.

Consistent performance on a demo account over several months may indicate that your strategy and trading process are working as intended. However, results achieved in a demo environment may not reflect performance under live market conditions. If you decide to move to real capital, start with the smallest position sizes available while you adapt to trading with funds at risk.
