Strategy offloads 1,638 Bitcoin, sells MSTR shares as USD reserves reach $4B

  • Strategy sold 1,638 Bitcoin for $104.7 million, reducing its total holdings to 842,138 BTC.
  • The company sold 3.01 million MSTR shares for $290.6 million, raising its USD Reserve to $4 billion.
  • Strategy's latest capital activity follows an $8.33 billion second-quarter operating loss, largely driven by unrealized losses on its Bitcoin treasury.

Strategy (MSTR) sold 1,638 Bitcoin (BTC) last week, generating approximately $104.73 million, while continuing sales of its Class A Common Stock (MSTR), according to a Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday.

The company stated that it allocated $52.4 million of the Bitcoin sale proceeds toward preferred stock dividend payments. Another $52.3 million was used to repurchase shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) under its previously announced Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.

Following the transaction, Strategy held 842,138 BTC, acquired at an aggregate purchase price of $63.51 billion. The company's average purchase price stood at $75,419 per Bitcoin.

Strategy boosts USD reserve to $4 billion through Bitcoin, MSTR sales

Strategy also sold approximately 3.01 million MSTR shares, generating $290.6 million in net proceeds.

The company allocated $250 million in net proceeds to its USD reserves. It also used $28.9 million of the proceeds to fund STRC repurchases and added $11.7 million to its cash balance.

Strategy's USD Reserve stood at approximately $4 billion. The reserve is designed to support dividend payments on preferred stock and interest obligations on the company's outstanding debt.

The company noted that it had approximately $893.8 million remaining under its preferred stock repurchase program and $1 billion available under its MSTR common stock repurchase program.

The latest transactions came shortly after Strategy reported an $8.33 billion operating loss for the second quarter of 2026, largely due to an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on its Bitcoin holdings as the top crypto declined during the period.

The company also reported an $8.22 billion net loss and held 843,775 BTC as of July 26. Despite the quarterly loss, Strategy noted that it achieved a 4.5% BTC Yield year to date and a BTC Gain of 29,997 BTC.

The company has continued using its capital markets programs to support its Bitcoin strategy while maintaining liquidity for preferred dividends and debt obligations.

Strategy's founder and chairman Michael Saylor has come under criticism following the company's recent BTC sales. Saylor had championed the hold on for dear life (HODL) narrative since the company pivoted to a BTC treasury company. However, he has come out to defend his position.
