Ripple payments network nears $150B in cumulative volume amid RLUSD growth

The company reported that its payments network is on track to end 2026 with $150 billion in cumulative transaction volume, with more than 60 payout markets supporting international money transfers.

“As traditional and digital finance converge, market infrastructure is migrating to modern rails. Settlement is moving to real-time, 24/7, and tokenized assets can be traded, financed and used as collateral,” said Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.

The company noted that more than 1,700 institutions, corporations and enterprises use its infrastructure, which spans payments, digital asset custody, stablecoins, prime brokerage and treasury management.

Ripple also mentioned that its US Dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, hit a market cap of $2.6 billion, representing more than 88% growth year-to-date. The company said RLUSD is used across its product suite as an enterprise-grade digital dollar, including for payment settlement and on-chain markets.

Garlinghouse says XRP remains a bridge asset for cross-border payments

As RLUSD’s market cap approaches $2.6 billion, critics have argued that the stablecoin could diminish the need for XRP. Garlinghouse pushed back, defending XRP’s role as a bridge asset for cross-border payments alongside the company’s growing stablecoin and financial services businesses.

“Anyone who doesn't think that XRP is at the heart of everything Ripple does is kind of missing the big picture from my point of view,” Garlinghouse said in an interview with Bloomberg.

He described RLUSD as complementary to XRP, explaining that the stablecoin gives businesses an entry point into digital asset infrastructure, while XRP serves a different role in cross-border transactions.

“A stablecoin is by definition a stable coin of one token, of one dollar,” Garlinghouse said when asked what XRP can do that RLUSD cannot. He added that a dollar-denominated stablecoin cannot, by itself, address the needs of every currency corridor.

“XRP continues to be an asset we use as a bridge asset between different currency pairs," he said.

The comments position XRP as a potential intermediary for transfers between currencies, while RLUSD serves customers requiring US Dollar-denominated settlement.

“Having a neutral bridge asset that's very very very low cost and scalable is something we think will continue to be appealing to different corridors,” Garlinghouse added.

XRP technical outlook: XRP tests $1.24 support

On the daily chart, XRP extended its correction below the short- and medium-term Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), which keeps the near-term bias bearish. The 20-, 50- and 100-day EMAs sit overhead as a dense cap, while the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 35 and an oversold Stochastic around 16 suggest downside momentum is strong but nearing exhaustion.

On the downside, immediate support is seen at the horizontal level near $1.24, ahead of deeper floors at $1.17 and then $1.04, with $0.98 marking a more distant base if selling accelerates. On the topside, a sustained recovery would first need to reclaim the EMA cluster between $1.33 and $1.35. Further resistance appears at $1.37, before the prior barrier at $1.48 and the major resistance zone around $1.66.
